On Friday, February 5th, 2016, ICEAP NS Sydney Campus celebrated another festival-the traditional Chinese New Year at the Pit Lounge in Cape Breton University. There were more 250 people attending this event, including our current students, alumni, and members from local community. Our unique theme for this event was to hold a Chinese New Year, the year of monkey. We decorated with red lanterns, Chinese knots, word blessings, and monkey images to make it festive and authentic. Chinese candies and sunflower seeds were also available at each table, for all to enjoy!

Each attendant got a red packet comprised of a chocolate coin and well wishes from ICEAP NS instructors and staff. The hearty dinner courses provided by ICEAP NS were served to the students by our gracious staff. While enjoying the delicacies, entertainment such as group dancers, our music club live band playing and singing, and saxophone performances, were displayed on the stage. The Cape Breton Chinese Student and Scholar Association had constant interaction with students through Wechat platform with Lantern Riddles, well wishes and lucky draws. With the full stomachs, pleasant atmosphere and happiness from the exciting games, the ICEAP NS Chinese New Year was a great success. All left feeling more sense of community in the new year.
