The game of Hockey is a very important and essential part of Canadian culture. There are numerous hockey fans in Canada. Even The Prime Minister Stephen Harper, is one of them. This politician never hide his love for hockey, he says he loves his job of being a Prime Minister, but there is nothing more exciting than hockey itself.
On the 17th of January, the student services department of the International Centre for EAP invited a group of students for the season opening game in Sydney.
It was the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles against the Drummondville Voltigeurs from Quebec.
After a scoreless first period, all the attendants were holding their breaths and nervous about which team would score first, the Screaming Eagles were on a roll and started scoring from the beginning of the second quarter. The spirit of sport is participation, but not for hockey, No, we need to fight, to win, we will never give up! Go! Go! Hockey Go!
With all the fans screaming and laughing, the game came to an end. The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles extended their winning streak to four straight games with a 6-2 victory over the Drummondville Voltigeurs. For the Canadian people, Hockey represents passion, dignity and pride. In the near future, the student services department at ICEAP NS will continue to organize these activities for new students so they could get acclimatized with the local culture and quickly fall in love with the game of hockey.
